Homeschooling Privately

Homeschooling privately means you are not enrolled in the public school system.  You are required to notify the High Desert Education Service District of your intent to homeschool by September 1st of the year your is age 7.

The Home School Legal Defense Association helps with homeschool rights and protections.  OCEANetwork is also a helpful resource for privately homeschooling famiies.


Homeschooling with a Charter School

When you homeschool through a charter school, your students are considered public school students.  You do not need to notify HDESD or follow homeschool requirements.  Instead, you will follow the requirements of the charter school in exchange for an alotment to spend according to their rules.  Different charter schools have different requirements, alotments, and resources including all virtual, in person days, and extracurriculars.

  • Classical Conversations (a private Homeschool community that takes a classical approach to learning, K-12)
  • Grace Academy (a two day a week option for families to enroll their child in a hybrid homeschool option, K-8)
